Let this be an opportunity for you to engage with the city in which you are living.
Hi! My name is Rhea McTiernan Huge, and I was born & raised in New Haven.
I’ve been involved in Ward 1 since my first year at Yale, and am proud to be the only candidate endorsed by Kiana Flores, the current Ward 1 Alder.
I believe that a thriving New Haven depends upon engagement. Engagement with the city, with your community, with its vibrancy.
I’m inviting you into a conversation - a conversation about how we can all, together, create a thriving New Haven. I know that each resident of Ward 1 has much to contribute, and collectively we can work towards a city that gives each resident what they need.
I have lived in this incredible city for my entire life and have experienced so much of what it has to offer, but have also experienced the challenges it faces and the places it can still grow. Together, with your engagement, we can help New Haven thrive.
This is an opportunity to engage in New Haven and realize all of its potential. Your presence is important.
The Democratic Primary is Tuesday, September 9th. You can register to vote up until September 8th before noon.

My New Haven Roots
I was born & raised in New Haven. I grew up playing in this city’s parks, working at its farmers markets, and attending its schools.
New Haven has shaped me into who I am. It has made me community oriented, open minded, and artistic. These are qualities I love about myself and New Haven, and qualities which have driven me into running for Ward 1 Alder.
Let me tell you a story…
When I first visited Yale for Admitted Students’ Weekend in 2022, I was astounded by the resources it possessed. Coming from Wilbur Cross High School, the largest public high school in New Haven, (which struggled to have enough soap in the bathrooms or enough counselors for its students, where the main goal every year was to graduate as many students as possible - instead of getting the most students into college or into careers they enjoyed), Yale felt almost unimaginable.
I saw the resources at Yale, a mere 2 miles from my high school, and I saw an opportunity to extend these resources to the communities and students I loved. This is a big part of why I’m running for Ward 1 Alder.
